I am proud to announce that U.S. Army retd. M.Sgt. Alvy R. Powell, Jr. will deliver The Star Spangled Banner to open the ONE Future 7th Annual Climate and Methane Strategies Event in Tyson's Corner, VA on Tuesday April, 23. M.Sgt. Powell is a national treasure and a native of Virginia, who retired as the longest-serving member of the United States Army. A classically-trained bass-baritone opera singer, he has performed at the invitation of Presidents of the United States since the Ford Administration, including at the funerals of President and Mrs. Gerald R. Ford, at the 60th Wedding Anniversary of President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush, and at the inauguration of President George H.W. Bush. President Barack Obama awarded M.Sgt. Powell the National Medal of the Arts in 2015. M.Sgt. Powell is internationally-acclaimed, especially for his role as Porgy in Porgy and Bess, a role he has reprised more than 2500 times.
